You probably know the saying “money is the root of all evil”, but did you know that this phrase is a mis-quote. The correct phrase is “the love of money is the root of all evil”. That’s a big difference, as to believe that the “love of money” could cause “evil” makes some sense, but not “money” itself. After all, money is an inanimate object, something that human beings invented to make their lives easier. So can an inanimate object be the root of all evil? In my opinion, the answer to that question is a resounding, “NO, it cannot”. Money is not the root of all evil. It is how we USE money, what sort of place we give it in our lives, which can result in “evil” outcomes. Just as we can use it to create “good” outcomes.

You might feel like stopping me here to say that all this is well and good when we don’t have much money; but when we start to become very rich, then all the money we accumulate corrupts us and there is a high probability that we would do “evil” things. If we pause to reflect on this for just a moment, we will realise the absurdity of this belief. How can money, which is an inanimate object – and is even now becoming just a few digits on a computer screen – corrupt us? Again, my answer would have to be “it cannot”! Money does not corrupt. We allow ourselves to be led by a false belief, and through lack of understanding and willpower we end up doing “evil” things or being “corrupted”.

So here’s another story we can start telling about money:
Money is a tool to be used to express all our creativity here on earth. The more money we have, the more we can do as we express our gifts in creative ways. We keep in mind the fact that money is a form of energy, a form of exchange, and that we are the ones who decide what we will do with it. We also understand that we live in an abundant universe and that there is plenty for ALL of us. So we are happy to share our abundance with others. As an aside, we notice that the word “evil” is just “live” written backwards, so we realise that when we start living with our focus directed forwards, all seeming “evil” will disappear. Finally, we believe that money is a root of good and, as a result, it becomes a root of good.
