Inspiring you to dream

The year I turned 50, I went through a major personal crisis. Who hasn’t, you might say, when approaching a new decade! I had stopped dreaming and I felt that my life had reached an all-time low. Looking back, I realized that I had always had a BIG dream when reaching a new decade.

At the end of my teens, my desire was to leave home and go to college abroad. I graduated from UCD in my 22nd year. Before my 30th birthday, my dream was to start a family and I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy four months before that decade. The day after my 40th birthday, I opened my own bookshop specializing in world literature and personal development, a dream I’d had since my college days. Those dreams I had achieved without really understanding how I had done so. When my bookshop failed after five years of operation, I found myself on a path of deep introspection. Despite the fact that I had been on a journey of personal development since my early 20s, I felt lost.

During this time, I came across Wallace D. Wattles’ book “The Science of Getting Rich.” Someone recommended I read it and I did. However, I didn’t just read it once and put it away. I followed Wattles’ instructions and read it over and over again, not even understanding the old-fashioned language it was written in to start with, but just believing what its author claimed it could do: help me get rich! Like many others before me, it began to work its magic. In small, subtle ways at first: I was inspired to adapt the book into a version specifically addressed to women and self-publish it as “The Science of Getting Rich for Women.” Then in more obvious ways: it led me to come across the teachings of Bob Proctor and, after following his 6-minutes-to-success program, I signed up for his life coaching training and flew out to Florida where I was certified as an Independent Licensed LifeSuccess Consultant.

Back in Brussels, I launched my life coaching practice but over the next couple of years I struggled to get it off the ground. I coached individuals and groups through a number of the LifeSuccess coaching programs, but soon I found myself in financial difficulty and felt forced to look for a part-time job. It was a time of great stress and much unhappiness.

And that’s where I was on approaching my 50th birthday. It hit me that not having a big dream approaching a new decade was paralyzing for me.

So I decided to set myself a first small goal: I would go away for my 50th birthday and spend it with a group of people I didn’t know! Searching the Internet, I found a yoga retreat run by two English women in Spain taking place the week of my birthday and I signed up for it.

We were a small group of people and, much to my surprise, most were women also travelling alone. I realized that there were many brave women in the world ready to try something new, some travelling thousands of miles to attend the retreat. We had a lot of fun; I made new friends, discovered a new part of the world, drank champagne for breakfast on my birthday and had a surprise birthday party along with a cake! This small action kickstarted major change in my life.

Early the following year, I started to design and host my own workshops on life skills topics, such as developing a positive mental attitude, goal setting, how to replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones, and overcoming procrastination. Then, I decided to create a course around “The Science of Getting Rich for Women.” The personal development books I had read over the past 30 years, as well as the training I had received from Bob Proctor, inspired me to design a course that would condense everything I had learned in a simple and powerful process to follow.

I called this course “A Path to Self-fulfillment: 7-step process for the successive realization of your deepest desires” and offered it in both live and webinar settings. I chose this title, because I believe that we feel self-fulfilled when we have a satisfying and worthwhile life, and when we have realized our deepest desires. The BIG dreams I had, which I achieved each decade, were in fact strong desires. I knew what I wanted and I had a burning desire to achieve it and so I did. I no longer offer this course, but it is still available as an 8-week self-study course for €49. You can download for free the first week to try it out before purchasing the full course.

Then just when I thought I had turned things around in my life, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It came as a huge shock. For over a year, I underwent heavy treatments: from surgery and chemotherapy to radiation and hormone treatment. It was a time of daily challenges but also of deep introspection. I’m glad to say that today I feel like I’m over the worst of it. And even more happy to share with you my DREAMWORK, which will be my primary focus for now.

Remember, your life is a journey, not a destination. Have many dreams and at least one BIG dream for each decade of your life. This will ease the transition and make your story a great adventure to share with the world.

Explore • Dream • Discover

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.

Kind words

I’ve attended Nicola’s workshops regularly and have always found them inspiring, challenging and to the point! Nicola uses a few simple tools to enable the group to bring out key issues of discussion and the exchange that develops is excellent food for thought. Thanks, Nicola!

Corporate Events

I can recommend Nicola’s workshops highly! The topics are very relevant for self-development, day-to-day stuff about which we rarely think but which has the potential to affect the quality of our life tremendously. Nicola challenges us to look at the why behind our ingrained behaviors and to move beyond our self-imposed restrictions to find more fulfillment and purpose in our lives. On top of that, she is a lovely and warm personality that really makes you feel at ease, she is a great listener and makes the workshops always enjoyable. All the workshops end with a clear recommendation on what to work on and how to achieve our goals and Nicola is not shy to check in a couple of weeks later to hold you accountable. After all, this is what helps any coachee to move forward. Thank you, Nicola!

Health Coach & Yoga Teacher

I really enjoyed the motivational workshops with Nicola. She is a very inspiring trainer. When I was complaining about a few things being wrong in my life, I remember her saying, “Don’t waste your energy complaining about the system, use it to do something better that replaces it.” I found the subjects we touched upon very useful and insightful: we spoke about how to create vision boards and use them to make our dreams come true, how to set our goals in life, how to focus our attention on the things we want without being distracted by the things we don’t want, and so forth. I strongly recommend her workshops to all those who want to understand what they want in life and to those who already know it, but who don’t know how to get there.
